The Arts and Artists at St. John's-Grace

This page provides information on members and friends of St. John's-Grace who are involved in the arts.

The St. John's-Grace Artists Group includes members of the parish operating in various fields of creativity including graphic arts, photography, music, theater, dance, architecture, writing, culinary arts and gardening. The purpose of the group is to explore the relationship between spirituality and creativity; to enrich liturgy; to provide networking opportunities both locally and through the internet; to mount exhibitions and recitals in the church spaces and on the web; and to hold periodic salons to discuss the arts and spirituality.

The St. John's-Grace Artists Group is a Parish Affiliate of the on-line arts organization Episcopal Church Visual Arts (ECVA). Visit their web site at www.ecva.org.

Mark Baker - Photographer

Suzanne Evans - Dancer and Teacher

Suzanne Evans was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, and studied dance at the National Academy of Arts before obtaining a B.A. in Dance at the University of Tennessee. She was a scholarship student at the Martha Graham and Alvin Ailey schools in New York City. She then danced with the Richmond Ballet and toured with other dance and theatre companies. Locally in Buffalo, New York, Suzanne has danced with Zodiac Dance Theatre of the University at Buffalo and has performed in many Neglia Ballet Artists performances including Romeo and Juliet, Don Quixote and Spartacus. She is a founding member and past president of the Neglia Ballet Artists board of directors.

Kristen grew up in Buffalo, New York, and developed a love for photography immediately after picking up her first 35 mm camera. Kristen later went on to SUNY Fredonia where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Photography in 2003. She graduated second in her class from the school of visual arts and was granted the Photography Departmental Award. Kristen furthered her education receiving her Masters degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2004. Along with her photography business, Kristen works as a high school photography teacher at Sweet Home High School in Amherst, NY.

Tom Ralabate - Director, Zodiaque Dance Company

Emma Schimminger - Theatrical Lighting Designer

Now working in NYC, Emma has designed theatrical lighting for productions of several local theatre companies including the Kavinoky, Ujima, Buffalo United Artists, Paul Robeson and Buffalo Ensemble Theatre. She was Technical Director for the Irish Classical Theatre for several years, as well as Resident Stage Manager for Shakespeare in Delaware Park. In NYC she has designed for American Globe Theatre, InnerAct, The Town Hall and Columbia Prep. She is a graduate of the Department of Theatre of the University at Buffalo.

John Schimminger - Hymns, Sacred and Secular Music, Graphic Arts

John Schimminger writes liturgical music, hymns, hymn texts and liturgical texts at St. John's-Grace Episcopal Church in Buffalo, NY, where he has been a member of the choir for many years. He also does graphic arts and the church newsletter. He studied art at the State University of New York at Buffalo and is self-taught in music composition.

Morgan C. Schimminger - Freelance Writer

Morgan has written for a wide variety of publications, both print and online. Her articles have appeared in the local Philadelphia arts and entertainment publication Ticket, Montgomery Newspapers' all the comforts of Home, Sister 2 Sister magazine, NV (New Visions in Business) magazine, and the Pennsylvania Nonprofit Report.
